Friends, we are busy gearing up for 2025 at the World Famous Gopher Hole Museum.
We had a new building donated last summer. Due to being zoned incorrectly, we were unable to move it, and ultimately, lost it as it had to be removed from its existing location last June. We are back to square one trying to find a new home. Long ago the museum outgrew the current structure, but there was not the motivation to expand. We now have the motivation as the museum is busier than ever, however, the buildings are failing. The situation is very serious and multiple contractors do not feel it is worth investing money into the structures at this point in their lives. The buildings were already old when the village moved them to be part of the museum. The museum was only supposed to exist for five years. 2025 will be its 30th season in operation and they are very, very tired. In the event we do get a new building, we do hope to move the existing buildings to the north end and restore them to house more traditional heritage style museums.
At one time, businesses and families were donors to the museum. Many of those businesses had dioramas named after them. You can still find the names of those who donated for the completion of Wayne Schneider's mural on the west wall. If there are people or businesses interested in adding their business to the museum as a display, sponsoring an existing display or donating toward the new building with your name on the donor wall, please reach out. We will be developing "giving levels" soon. It certainly is a unique way to commemorate your family or advertise to the thousands of people and multiple media personalities entering the museum every year.
As for the upcoming season, new exhibits have been created, we simply do not have the room to display them. Unless a miracle happens and we have to close to install a building, we will be opening May 16 (F/S/S) 11am-4pm; June 26-September 2,10am-5pm daily, and September 5-October 19 11am-4pm. As always, we can be contacted to open by appointment. We would like to take this time to thank the community for their support and hope to see you soon!
